Year 2 @Home

Summer Term 2

This half term you are going to look at different lessons which have been taken from the Teach Computing website. There are live chats for you and your parents happening daily on the website too if you are interested but must have an adult with you. All the information about these lessons can be found here:  https://teachcomputing.org/home-teaching/key-stage-1

Lesson 1 – starting 8th June – Mini Missions

This activity is split into six computational thinking concepts: algorithms, abstraction,  evaluation, decomposition, patterns and logic. Each concept includes five activities to enable children to get to grips with these concepts.

Mini Missions

Lesson 2 – starting 15th June – Shopping Lists

In this activity, children will learn to identify the ingredients they need to make a cake and create a shopping list. In doing so, they develop their skills of abstraction. If you wish, you can also use the activity to develop their understanding of algorithms.

Lesson 3 – starting 22nd June – Hand Jives

In this activity, your child/children will create hand clapping, hand tutting (see videos attached) or hand jive sequences of movements. Children break the sequence of actions down into parts and in so doing are decomposing. Children can link this idea to breaking problems down when creating computer programs such as animations or games.

Lesson 4 – starting 29th June – Battleships

In this activity, your child/children will learn how to predict and analyse using the mini mission activities. Five activities are available including noughts & crosses, magic squares, boxes, triangles and bedroom battleships.

Battleships

Lesson 5 – starting 6th July – Evaluating

In this activity, your child/children will learn how to make judgements using the mini mission activities. Five activities are available including WWW, being a critic, my daily workout, a new healthy sandwich and being an engineer. (Page 3)

Evaluation Page 3

Lesson 6 – starting 13th July – Creating Algorithms

In this activity, your child/children will learn how to create algorithms by making steps and rules. Five activities are available including cooking, my amazing game, robotify me, timetable and teddy hunt. (Page 1)

Summer Term 1

Computing – Unit 2B Creating Music on a Computer

Click on Chrome Music Lab

  1. Explore Rhythm (RHYTHM Monkey) – Identify that there are patterns and rhythms in music.
  2. Explore Pitch and Duration (KANDINSKY) – Connect your images to sounds
  3. Explore Notes and Tempo (SONG MAKER) – Add notes and change the tempo slider (see below)

5. Choose an animal and create some music to match how that animal moves and behaves. Like an elephant, butterfly, monkey. You can always save and download your files as you work on them. Ask an adult to help you.

Online Safety Activities

1. There are activities here based around the films Jessie and Friends. Take a look.

Think U Know Activities for 5-7 year olds

2. Go to the Barefoot Website below and try out some of the activities for your age group to support your Computing Work.

Spring Term 2:  March to Easter Activities

Code Studio – Course 1

If you can remember your secret picture then complete the whole of Course 1 below. Remember to snap the blocks together to create an algorithm going down. Press Run to test your algorithm and debug your code if it doesn’t work.

The activities you need to do include:

If you can’t remember your secret picture, you can still access the course here but it won’t save your progress so record the activities you do.
